In the competition for the new building in the center of Cologne, CARSTEN ROTH ARCHITEKT wins 2nd prize. The competition was for the space of today’s Theater am Rudolfplatz, situated in the immediate vicinity of the historic Hahnentorburg. The competition was comprised of 6 internationally active architecture offices.
Office-, retail- and restaurant spaces are integrated into the cityscape at the intersection of the ring and the east-west axis, ensuring an expansion option for a further phase of construction.
The draft is comprised of accentuated moderate elevations, representing itself as a new part of past history.
Large glazed openings facing Hahnentorburg within the 1st floor and towards the urban space in the upper floors, give expansive views to the surroundings. The intentional staggering of building sections ensures tension and rhythm.
